How to remove a background in three steps

  1. Drop your photo in and press Remove background. Or paste it straight from the clipboard. No clicking around the subject; the cut finds it for you.
  2. Zoom in and perfect it. Pinch or scroll to zoom right into the hair, then paint with Restore to bring a strand back or Erase to drop a stray bit of background. Hold to compare, or go back to the original and try again.
  3. Pick a backdrop and download. Transparent for anything you will place on a design, thumbnail or slide; white or a color for a listing shot or a profile picture.

Made for the photos you actually post

Product photos
A phone shot on the kitchen table becomes a clean white-background listing for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify or a marketplace ad. Straps, handles and bottle necks survive the cut.
Profile pictures
A sharp head-and-shoulders cut-out for LinkedIn, a team page or a Discord avatar, with a solid color behind it and no halo around the hair.
Thumbnails and covers
Cut yourself out of a frame and drop the PNG on your YouTube thumbnail, podcast cover or Reel cover. Full resolution, so it stays crisp at any size.
Pets and people
Fur, whiskers, curls and windblown hair come out soft and natural instead of jagged.
Logos and graphics
Turn a logo on a white or colored card into a transparent PNG you can use anywhere.

Hair-level precision, with you in control

  • The cut is automatic and handles the hard parts: hair against a busy street, a dark jacket on a dark wall, a bike wheel with the background showing through the spokes.
  • When a photo has more than one thing that could be the subject, you decide. A couple of brush strokes keep or drop anything, and you can zoom all the way in to do it precisely.
  • Nothing is downsized. The PNG you download is the size of the photo you gave it.

Questions people ask

How do I make a background transparent?

Keep Transparent selected and download as PNG. The PNG keeps the transparency, so you can place the cut-out on any design, slide or thumbnail. JPG can't hold transparency, which is why the JPG option fills the background with white or the color you picked.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. The full-size PNG is the free result. There is no watermark, no preview-only download and no limit on the number of photos.

Does it keep the full resolution?

Yes. The cut-out comes back at the photo's original size. Photos above 24 megapixels are worked on at 24 megapixels, which is still bigger than any screen or social post needs.

What if it cuts off part of the hair, or keeps a piece of the background?

Zoom in and paint over it. Restore brings back anything the automatic cut removed; Erase takes out anything it kept. The brush has a soft edge so the fix blends in, and undo is a keystroke away.

Can I put a white background behind a product photo?

Yes. Pick the white swatch, or any color, and download as JPG or PNG. That is the fastest way to get a clean marketplace listing shot from a phone photo.

Why does the first photo take a moment?

The first time on a device the tool gets itself ready, which takes a few seconds. After that, photos start at once.

Which formats can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC from an iPhone go in. You can download as PNG, JPG or WebP.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Pinch to zoom, paint with a finger, and the download lands in your photos like any other file.
