Compress image at a glance
content.win compresses images to an exact size in KB, with no daily cap, which most free compressors only offer behind an account. It never returns a file larger than the one you gave it.
- Works with
- JPG, PNG and WebP. Several at once.
- Comes back as
- The same format, smaller, at a quality you pick or at an exact target size in KB.
- Runs
- In your browser.
- Limits
- No daily limit and no cap on how many files. Images up to 24 megapixels.
- Price
- Free. No account, no watermark.
How to compress an image
- Drop the image in. Or a batch.
- Pick a quality or a target size. 80 for photos with no visible loss. Or the kilobytes a form or platform demands.
- Download. The result shows the before and after size and the saving.
Size limits worth knowing
- YouTube thumbnail
- 2 MB, 1280 × 720. Use quality 85 and it lands around 200 KB.
- Email and forms
- Many forms cap at 1 or 2 MB per file; email signatures want under 100 KB.
- Web pages
- Under 200 KB per image keeps a page fast. A hero image at 1600 px wide and quality 75 is usually 120 to 180 KB.
- WhatsApp and messaging
- WhatsApp recompresses photos anyway; sending under 1 MB avoids a second, worse compression.
- App stores and marketplaces
- Etsy 1 MB, Shopify 20 MB but slow pages punish you, Amazon 10 MB with 1000 px minimum on the long side.
Questions people ask
How does image compression work here?
The image is re-encoded at the quality you choose. For JPG and WebP that discards detail the eye doesn't notice. For PNG, which is lossless, the win comes from shrinking the pixel size or switching to WebP, which the tool offers.
What quality should I use?
80 is the sweet spot for photos: usually half the size, no visible change. 60 to 70 for web thumbnails. Under 50 shows blockiness in gradients and skin.
How do I get under a specific size?
Choose Target size and enter the kilobytes. The tool tries qualities until it lands under, and if quality alone can't get there it also reduces the pixel size.
Should I convert PNG to WebP or JPG?
For photos, yes: a PNG photo is often five times the size of the same JPG. Keep PNG for screenshots with text, logos and anything with transparency, unless you pick WebP, which keeps transparency too.
What's the biggest saving?
Pixel size. A phone photo is 4000 pixels wide and no social feed shows more than about 1500. Setting a maximum width halves or quarters the file before quality even matters.
