How to edit a video online

  1. Drop your clips in. Video, sound and pictures land in the Media panel with a thumbnail and their length.
  2. Put them on the timeline. Drag a file onto a track, or press its + to place it at the playhead. A video with sound arrives as a linked pair that moves together.
  3. Cut and arrange. Drag the ends of a clip to trim it, press S to split it at the playhead, drag clips around and across tracks, delete what you do not need.
  4. Add titles. Press Title, type, pick a font and a colour, and set where it sits with the sliders.
  5. Export. Choose the size and the MP4 is written.

Questions people ask

Is there a watermark?

No, and there is no trial. The export is the MP4 itself.

How long can the video be?

As long as your device can hold. Long projects take longer to export.

Can I use a video from my phone?

Yes. If the phone recorded it in a format this browser cannot decode, the editor says so when you add it and points you to a converter.

Can I put one video over another?

Yes. A clip on a higher track draws over the ones below it, as in the editors you know. Scale it down and move it to make a picture in picture.

Where does the sound go?

A video with sound arrives as two linked clips, picture and sound, that move together. Unlink them from the Clip panel to move one on its own, or mute a track to silence it.
