Attachment limits by service

- 25 MB per message, all attachments combined. Above that Gmail swaps the file for a Drive link.
- Outlook and Microsoft 365
- 20 MB on most accounts, 33 MB on some. Above the limit Outlook offers OneDrive.
- Apple Mail and iCloud
- 20 MB in most setups, then Mail Drop takes over with a link.
- Corporate mail servers
- Often 10 MB. If you are sending to a company address, 10 MB is the safe target.
Questions people ask
What is the maximum video size for email?
25 MB on Gmail, 20 MB on most Outlook and Apple Mail accounts, often 10 MB on corporate servers. 20 MB is under all but the strictest.
Why does Gmail turn my video into a Drive link?
Because the attachment is over 25 MB. Under the limit it attaches directly and the receiver gets the file itself.
How long a video fits in 20 MB?
A minute and a half at good 1080p, four to five minutes at 720p. Cap the resolution for long clips.
Will the receiver be able to play it?
Yes. The MP4 uses H.264 video, which every phone, Mac and Windows PC plays.
Can I send a bigger file some other way?
Yes, through a Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer link, which is what the mail apps offer when you go over. Compressing avoids the extra step.
Is there a watermark?
No.
