Three ways to pick

From your screen
Click the button, then click anything on screen: a competitor's site, a paused video, a slide. The exact pixel color comes back. Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop.
From an image
Drop in a photo, screenshot or logo. Hover to read any pixel with a magnified view, click to keep it, and get the six dominant colors as a palette.
By code or wheel
Type a hex code, or open the native picker and drag. Every format updates as you go.

What you get back

HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, CMYK
The same color in every notation designers, developers and printers ask for, each with a copy button.
Tints and shades
Nine steps lighter and darker, for backgrounds, hover states and text on brand color. Click one to make it current.
Text on this color
WCAG contrast of white and black text against the color, with pass marks, so captions and buttons stay readable.
Goes with
The complementary color and two neighbours on the wheel, the usual starting point for a two- or three-color brand kit.

Questions people ask

How do I pick a color from my screen?

Click Pick from screen, then click anywhere: another tab, a video, an app window. It uses the browser's EyeDropper feature, available in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop. Safari and Firefox don't offer it yet; there, take a screenshot and use Pick from image.

How do I get the color code from an image?

Click Pick from image and choose a photo, screenshot or logo. Move over it to read the color under the cursor, click to keep it, and the palette below shows the image's dominant colors.

Is the color from a JPEG exact?

Close, not perfect. JPEG compression shifts single pixels a little, so a flat brand color can read a few values off. Pick from a flat area away from edges, or from a PNG or SVG of the logo when you have one.

What are HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK?

Four ways of writing the same color. HEX is what the web uses, six hex digits for red, green and blue. RGB is the same values in decimal. HSL is hue, saturation and lightness, the easiest to adjust by hand. CMYK is the ink mix for print, converted here with a plain formula, not a printer profile, so treat it as a starting point.

What do the contrast numbers mean?

How readable text is on this color, using the WCAG ratio. 4.5 to 1 passes AA for normal text, 3 to 1 for large text, 7 to 1 passes AAA. The tool tells you whether white or black text is the safer choice.

Can I get a whole palette from a photo?

Yes. Pick from image shows the six most common colors in the picture, ignoring near-duplicates. Click any of them to make it the current color and get its codes.
