Which case for what

Title Case
Headlines, video titles, ebook and course names. Every main word capitalized, small joining words left alone: "How to Win the First Three Seconds".
Sentence case
Captions, descriptions, buttons and most on-screen text. Reads as speech, feels less like an ad. Most brands moved here in the last few years.
UPPER CASE
One line, not a paragraph. Works for a hook or a label; three lines of it reads as shouting and gets skipped.
Capitalized Case
Hashtags and names. #ContentThatWins is easier to read and easier for screen readers than #contentthatwins.
camelCase, snake_case, kebab-case
File names, URLs, variable names and slugs. Kebab-case is what URLs want; snake_case is what most code wants; camelCase is JavaScript's habit.
aLtErNaTiNg and iNVERSE
For mocking tone and for fixing a line typed with caps lock on. Use sparingly.

How Title Case decides

Every word gets a capital except these, unless they begin or end the text: a, an, the, and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet, as, at, by, in, of, on, to, up, via. Words after a colon are capitalized. Hyphenated words capitalize both halves.

Good to know

  • Conversion runs.
  • No length limit. A whole script converts as fast as a caption.
  • Undo brings back exactly what you pasted.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalized Case?

Capitalized Case starts every word with a capital. Title Case does the same but keeps short joining words lowercase, such as a, an, the, and, of, to, in, unless they start or end the line. Title Case is what headlines and book titles use.

How does Sentence case decide where a sentence starts?

It lowercases everything, then capitalizes the first letter after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark, plus the standalone word I. It cannot know that Paris or Nike is a name, so check proper nouns after converting.

Which case should I use for hashtags?

Capitalize each word, as in #ContentThatWins. Screen readers pronounce the words separately, it is easier to read at a glance, and hashtags are not case sensitive so it changes nothing about reach.

Does it change my punctuation or spacing?

No. Line breaks, spaces and punctuation stay exactly as you pasted them. Only the letters change, except in the code cases, which join words with underscores, hyphens or nothing, as those formats require.

Is there a limit on how much text I can convert?

No practical one. The conversion runs, so a 50,000-word draft converts as quickly as a caption.

Can I undo a conversion?

Yes. Undo restores the text you pasted, however many conversions you applied since.
