Comes back as
An MP4 up to 1080p at 30 or 60 frames a second that opens on phones, in editors and anywhere a video plays.
While you record
A live view of yourself, a three-second countdown, pause and resume, and a timer.
Runs
In your browser.
Limits
No time limit and no cap on how many recordings.
Price
Free. No account, no watermark.

How to record a video with your webcam

  1. Turn the camera on. Allow the browser to use it, then pick the camera and the microphone if you have more than one. You see yourself live before anything is recorded.
  2. Press Start. A countdown gives you three seconds to settle, then the timer runs. Pause if you need a moment; the pause is not in the video.
  3. Stop and download. The recording plays back right away so you can check it, then Download saves the MP4.

A better-looking recording in a minute

Light
Face a window or a lamp, never sit with one behind you. A screen at full brightness works as a fill light in a dark room.
Eye line
Raise the laptop so the camera is at eye height, and look at the lens when you make a point, not at yourself.
Sound
A headset or earbuds beat the laptop microphone in any room with echo. The recorder removes background hum and echo from the microphone track on its own.
Framing
Head and shoulders, a little room above the head, and the camera steady. Keep 1080p for anything people will watch on a laptop; 720p is plenty for a chat message.

Questions people ask

Is there a time limit or a watermark?

Neither. Record for as long as you need, and the MP4 comes back exactly as recorded.

Why is the preview mirrored?

The live view flips the picture the way a mirror does, because that is what feels natural while you talk. The recording itself is not flipped, so text on a shirt or a sign reads correctly to viewers.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome and Safari. The camera and microphone are asked for once, and the download lands with your other files.

Can I record my screen and my camera together?

Yes. Switch to Screen + camera and your camera becomes a round bubble in the corner of the screen recording.

What format do I get?

An MP4 that opens on phones, in editors and anywhere a video plays. An older browser without the newer video features saves a WebM instead; the WebM to MP4 tool converts it.
