This browser saves a WebM. It plays in every browser; for an MP4, run it through WebM to MP4.
Next: trim the start and end, make it smaller, turn a moment into a GIF or keep just the sound.
Screen recording with sound at a glance
The usual complaint about screen recorders is silence: the video is fine and the sound is missing. Here the microphone and the computer's sound are both ticked from the start, and the page tells you when a recording was made without the computer's sound.
- Works with
- Your microphone, the sound of a browser tab, and the whole computer's sound where the system allows it. Any combination, mixed into one track.
- Comes back as
- An MP4 with the picture and the sound in one file, ready for YouTube, a course, a bug report or a message.
- Runs
- In your browser.
- Limits
- No time limit and no cap on how many recordings.
- Price
- Free. No account, no watermark.
How to record your screen with sound
- Keep Microphone and Computer or tab sound ticked. Untick the microphone for a silent narration-free capture, or the computer's sound for a voice-only walkthrough.
- Press Start, pick what to record and tick Share audio. That tick box sits in the browser's own window where you choose the screen, window or tab. Without it, only the microphone is recorded.
- Stop and download. The page shows whether the computer's sound made it in. Play the recording back, then download the MP4.
Where the sound comes from
- Microphone
- Your voice, with echo and background noise cleaned up as it is recorded. Pick the microphone from the list; a headset beats the laptop's own in any echoey room.
- A browser tab
- Choose a tab in the picker and tick Share audio, and you get exactly that page's sound and nothing else: the cleanest way to record a video call, a web player or a web app, on any system.
- The whole computer
- Choose the entire screen and tick Share audio. Windows and ChromeOS record everything that plays. On a Mac this needs a current Chrome or Edge on macOS 14.2 or newer; on older Macs, record a tab instead or use the microphone.
- Both together
- With the microphone and the computer's sound ticked they are mixed into one track, so a commentary over a game or a call comes out as one soundtrack.
- No sound at all
- Untick both and the recording is silent, the right choice for a clip you will narrate later with Text to speech or in an editor.
Questions people ask
Why did my recording come out without the computer's sound?
Almost always because Share audio was not ticked in the window where you picked the screen, window or tab. It is off by default in the browser. Tick it and record again; the page notes when a recording was made without it.
Can I record internal audio on a Mac?
The sound of a browser tab, yes, on any Mac. The whole computer's sound needs a current Chrome or Edge on macOS 14.2 or newer. On an older Mac, record the tab that plays the sound, or use the microphone.
Does it record my voice and the game or call at the same time?
Yes. Tick both and they are mixed into one track. The microphone is cleaned of echo, so the computer's sound does not leak back in through it on a laptop.
Can I record only the microphone?
Yes. Untick Computer or tab sound. You still choose what to record; the recording carries only your voice.
Is the sound in sync with the picture?
Yes. Picture and sound are recorded together into one file, and pauses are cut from both.
