How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Drop the HEIC files in. From an iPhone, an AirDrop, or a folder. Several at once is fine.
  2. Pick JPG, PNG or WebP. JPG at quality 92 is right for almost everything.
  3. Download. Each file keeps its name with the new extension.

Why HEIC won't open and what to do about it

  • Windows needs a paid extension to open HEIC; older Android phones and most web forms reject it outright.
  • Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accept HEIC from the app but not always from a browser upload. JPG always works.
  • To stop the problem at the source, set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible under Settings, Camera, Formats. Photos already taken stay HEIC until converted.
  • HEIC keeps the same photo in about half the space, so converting to JPG roughly doubles the file. Compress or resize it after if size matters.

What is a HEIC file?

The format iPhones have saved photos in since 2017. It packs the same picture into about half the space of a JPG, but Windows, Android, many websites and most upload forms don't open it. Converting to JPG makes it open everywhere.

Does converting lose quality?

The decoder reads every pixel of the HEIC; the only loss is JPG's own compression at the quality you set. At 92 the difference is invisible. Choose PNG for a lossless result at a much larger size.

Can I convert several at once?

Yes. Drop a whole batch; each converts in turn and you can download them one by one or all together.

Why is the first conversion slower?

The decoder is a 1.4 MB component that loads the first time you use the page. After that it's cached and conversions are near instant.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari and Chrome. On iPhone you can also change the camera to save JPG directly under Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible.
