How to flip or mirror an image

  1. Drop the images in. One or many. JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF.
  2. Turn them. Flip horizontal makes a mirror image. Flip vertical turns it upside down. Rotate left, right or 180 turns the whole picture. The buttons stack, and Reset puts everything back.
  3. Download. Each image on its own or all of them together, in the original format or JPG, PNG or WebP.

Flip, mirror or rotate

Flip horizontal, mirror
Left becomes right. Use it to match a selfie to what you saw in the camera preview, to face a product the other way in a layout, or for a mirror effect.
Flip vertical
Top becomes bottom. Rare on its own; with a horizontal flip it equals a 180 turn.
Rotate 90
Turns the picture on its side. Width and height swap, so a 1920 × 1080 photo becomes 1080 × 1920.
Rotate 180
Upside down, same width and height.

Why some photos open sideways

  • Phones often save a photo the way the sensor sits and add a note in the file saying which way is up. Some apps read that note, some don't, so the same photo can look upright in one place and sideways in another.
  • The export writes the pixels the way you see them, with no rotation note to misread. That is usually the fix for a photo that opens sideways in a client's email.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between mirror and flip?

Nothing. Mirroring a photo and flipping it horizontally are the same operation: left and right swap, as if you were looking at it in a mirror. Flipping vertically swaps top and bottom instead.

Does flipping or rotating lose quality?

No. Every pixel is moved to a new position; nothing is resampled or blurred. The only change comes from the file format: saving as JPG or WebP compresses again, at the quality you set. PNG keeps the pixels exactly.

Why does my selfie look reversed?

Phone cameras mirror the preview so it feels like a mirror, then most of them save the unmirrored photo. If the saved version looks wrong to you, flip it horizontally and it will match what you saw on screen.

Can I flip a screenshot with text in it?

Yes, but the text will read backwards. That is sometimes what you want, for a mirror effect, and never what you want for a document. Rotate instead if the screenshot is on its side.

Can I rotate several images at once?

Yes. Drop them all; every button applies to every image and the thumbnails update as you go. Download all saves them one after another.

Does it keep transparent backgrounds?

Yes. PNG and WebP keep their transparency when exported as PNG or WebP. Exporting a transparent image as JPG fills the transparent parts with white, since JPG has no transparency.
